What is an unshaven hair transplant?
In a traditional transplant, the donor area is usually cut short. In the unshaven method, your hair is not cut completely. Follicles are picked one by one from between longer hair.
This means there is little visible change apart from the treated area. It is a good option if you want to return to work and social life without drawing attention.
Who is it best for?
It can suit anyone who does not want a short haircut, does not want others to notice, or does not feel comfortable with short hair. Women with longer hair often choose it. It tends to work better for mild to moderate hair loss.
When a large area needs treatment, or the donor area is not suitable, a shaved technique may be the better choice. We will tell you this honestly during your assessment.
How does it work?
The donor area is identified and local anaesthesia is applied. Follicles are then collected one by one from between the longer hair. Channels are opened and the follicles are placed at a natural angle.
Working through longer hair can take a little more time. The procedure averages 6–9 hours and may be split into two sessions in some cases. You go home the same day.
Recovery
Mild redness may appear in the first 3 days. Scabs fall off in about 7–10 days. Shock loss can occur within 1–2 months; it is normal and part of the process.
New hair begins to show between months 3 and 6. The final result appears at around 12 months. Results vary from person to person.
